the bridge was built around year 1000 dc, under commission of duchess Matilde.
According to the legend of the place, the architect didn't finish the bridge within the terms imposed by the duchess and he was to be executed for this.
to save his life he asked for Lucifer's help which commanded a soul as a payment for building the bridge for the architect.
The pact was signed and the devil built the bridge within the night hours, waiting for the first soul to step on it to be payed in the morning.
Cleverly the architect pushed a pig on the bridge as soon as the sun arose and the devil disappeared into the deepness of the river with nothing but a pig's soul.
In revenge for this betrayment to their pact, he casted a spell on the bridge and had it twisted and tangled the way we see it today.
